Artist Statement
I’m Dee Hodges, the artist behind DeeFine Works. My work is rooted in movement, emotion, and the unexpected beauty that happens when color takes on a life of its own. Acrylic pouring became my medium because it mirrors how I see the world — fluid, layered, and full of depth.
Based in North Carolina, I’m inspired by the landscapes, textures, and shifting light that shape this region. Every piece begins with intuition: a feeling, a memory, or a moment expressed through color. No two pieces are ever the same — each one finds its own voice.
Whether you’re discovering my work for the first time or looking for a piece that speaks to your home or business, I’m glad you’re here. Welcome to DeeFine Works — where color finds its voice.
The Story Behind the Art
I didn’t come to art through formal training — I came to it through a lifetime of building, designing, and solving problems. I grew up creating furniture and sketching floor plans, drawn to structure, balance, and the way things fit together. As I got older, that creative drive expanded into designing custom furniture, remodeling homes, sewing clothing, painting murals, and teaching others in craft stores. Creativity has always been the thread running through everything I do.
Alongside that hands‑on work, I built a career in IT, analyzing problems and managing projects to create efficiency and clarity. For more than twenty years, I’ve also worked in web design, blending logic with aesthetics. That mix of technical thinking and artistic intuition shapes the way I approach every piece I create.
Acrylic pouring became the place where all of these experiences meet — craftsmanship, design, problem‑solving, and a love for color and movement. It’s a medium that lets me combine structure with spontaneity, precision with flow. No two pieces are ever the same, because each one responds to motion, materials, and the moment it’s created.
My art is the natural evolution of a life spent imagining, building, refining, and transforming spaces — and now, I get to share that with you.
